Diabetes Definition
Diabetes is a chronic condition which interferes with your body’s ability to turn food into energy.
The carbohydrates in the food that you eat turns into glucose which stays in your bloodstream.
Your body normally produces insulin , which turns this glucose into energy, but with diabetes, there is too little insulin, or your body is unable to react efficently to the insulin that is produced.
Yep, being diabetic isn’t fun.
Sugar in your bloodstream is not good. It acts as a toxin, and if you do not treat it, can cause damage to your nerve endings (neuropathy) and internal organs. Also, as a diabetic, you will often feel tired because you are not getting the benefit of the energy.
Diabetics take medication ot inject insulin to help mange this.
I am a type 2 diabetic, which means that I produce insulin, but not enough. I used to control this with metforminn and gliclazide, but now inject insulin 4 times a day.
Type 1 diabetics do not produce insulin at all, and will need to inject insulin every day pretty much immediately they are diagnosed.
Sure, injecting insulin sucks, but it’s way better than the alternative, trust me.
